The case of White House staffers dropping like flies alludes to the notion that the White House is crumbling before America’s very eyes, and these savvy staffers are smart enough to abandon ship before the bitter end.
The latest staffer to hit the exit door is now-former Deputy White House Communications Director Josh Raffel, who served as Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s right-hand man. Raffel put in a little under a year before throwing in the towel, according to Axios
Ivanka told Axios:
“Josh is honest, passionate and thoughtful. Whether it was offering strategic guidance on the communications for tax reform or a foreign trip, Josh’s guidance was invaluable.”
She added, “The White House won’t be the same without him.”
Before his stint in the White House, Raffel worked as a Hollywood publicist.
In August 2016 during an interview with Buzzfeed, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated, “I probably talk to Josh 30 times a day.”
Huckabee continued, “I certainly wouldn’t say he’s doing personal PR, but he handles a lot of things in [Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s] portfolio.”
Despite working for the Trumps, Raffel supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. Perhaps his conscience ultimately caught up with him.
It’s also important to note that the timing of his resignation coincides with Communication Director Hope Hicks’ testimony before the House Intelligence Committee regarding Russia collusion and tampering in the 2016 election.
