Trump doesn’t always fire back when a high-profile celebrity criticizes him, but as Bill Maher pointed out, Trump loves picking fights with African-Americans. Often, people of color don’t need to attack Trump first to get a rise out of him, just ask Colin Kaepernick.
Jay-Z recently appeared on The Van Jones Show, and he condemned Trump’s “sh*thole countries” remark. The president reportedly called Haiti, El Salvador, and several African nations “sh*thole countries” during an Oval Office immigration meeting.
Jay-Z called the president’s remark “disappointing” and “hurtful.” The rapper told Jones, “Everyone feels anger, but after the anger it’s really hurtful because he’s looking down on a whole population of people and he’s so misinformed because these places have beautiful people.” He added, “This is the leader of the free world speaking like this.”
Trump wasted no time returning fire. He tweeted:
“Somebody please inform Jay-Z that because of my policies, Black Unemployment has just been reported to be at the LOWEST RATE EVER RECORDED!”

Despite Trump’s defense, Jay-Z reminded Trump that life isn’t all about money. He said, “Because it’s not about money at the end of the day.”
Jay-Z continued, “Money is not — money doesn’t equate to happiness. It doesn’t. That’s missing the whole point. You treat people like human beings, then — that’s the main point.
