The FBI just released extreme warning to the Trump administration (Details)

The FBI has been under constant attack from President Trump for some time now, with events reaching a chaotic crescendo in these past days as Deputy Director Andrew McCabe announced he’d be stepping down early amidst rumors that Trump was deeply displeased with him.

At the same time, Republicans are pushing to release the Nunes memo. The memo, which is a brief summary of classified information alleging FBI surveillance abuses, is rank partisan hackery compiled by Trump toady Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA).

The memo has been divorced from the underlying intelligence and as such is said to be deeply decontextualized. It’s nothing more than a cynical attempt to undermine the FBI in the hopes of delegitimizing special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Yesterday, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) called for a “cleanse” of the FBI, in rhetoric that is disturbingly reminiscent of Josef Stalin’s infamous purges. Fox News reported that he made the comments while justifying the release of the already-infamous Nunes memo.

Apparently unwilling to take the ceaseless attacks sitting down any longer, the FBI released a statement today pushing back against the Nunes memo, reports Katie Bo Williams of The Hill.

The FBI stated that they only had a “limited opportunity” to review the memo and only then just the day before the Republicans in the House Intelligence Committee voted to release it against the wishes of the Democrats, while at the same time refusing to let the Democratic response refuting the memo’s contentions be released.

They added that the agency has “grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”

Republicans are acting in a disgraceful fashion. If they truly are concerned about the FBI’s behavior they should release all of the underlying information, not just cherrypicked sections to fit their political needs. It’s a disgusting attack on a foundational American law enforcement agency, and no good will come of it.
