President Trump proudly declared this Tuesday that he “absolutely” plans to invite infamous North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to the White House.
The president later suggests that Kim had already accepted his gracious invitation, but it would have to take place “at the appropriate time, a little bit further down the road.”
Trump also told reporters that he plans to visit Pyongyang “at a certain time.
“That will be a day that I very much look forward to at the appropriate time,” the president said.
Trump’s remarks followed after his meeting with Kim in Singapore marking the first in-person discussion between an acting U.S. president and North Korean leader in history.
Pressed by the media during the meeting whether he would invite Kim to the White House for further talks, Trump replied: “Absolutely, I will.”
Trump complimented Kim following the summit, calling him “a very worthy, very smart negotiator” and saying that he planned to meet with the North Korean leader “many times.”
Trump’s blatant naivety to the politics behind the summit drew harsh backlash from actor Jim Carrey who ripped into Trump with a scathing work of art parodying the summit:
Let’s Make A Deal: You’ll be a real world leader. I’ll sway the midterm elections. And together we will save the world from the bloodthirsty Canadians. pic.twitter.com/kHa1w3ye03
