The president of the NAACP stepped forth to claim that “we know” President Trump is a racist.
“We just have to be careful not to get so caught up in his words,” Derrick Johnson said while speaking to CNN’s Erin Burnett. “We know he’s a racist, he’s demonstrated that.”
Johnson’s shocking new convictions come in the aftermath of the shocking reports that Trump had called Haiti, El Salvador and certain African nations “sh*thole countries” during a private Oval Office meeting on immigration this past Thursday.
“Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?” Trump said, while talking about protections for immigrants from several countries.
Trump then added that the U.S. should focus on bringing in more immigrants from countries like Norway.
Johnson stated that the remarks were the “language of the 50’s and 60’s” aimed to “energize the base” before the 2018 midterm elections.
Johnson went on to claim that Trump was “racist both in his actions and his words.”
The African-American group’s president had already dismissed a previous CNN interview where Trump had claimed that he was “the least racist person that you’ve ever met.”
Trump also claimed this week that the wording he used at the Thursday meeting was “tough” but denied the highly criticized remarks.
The president drew heavy criticism from longtime Georgia congressman and former Civil Rights activist John Lewis over the “unbelievable” remarks and stated that he could not in good conscience attend Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address
It looks like Donald Trump really stuck his foot in his mouth this time.
