Shocking new polls reveal who Americans blame for Government Shutdown

In a shocking new poll released on Monday, Americans said they blame Republicans on Capital Hill more than the Democrats for the government shutdown. The poll, which was ran by Politico/Morning Consult, conducted the polls just before the shutdown occurred, posted the results on Monday morning.

The numbers showed 41% of those polled said they would blame the GOP more than the Democrats, while only 36% admitted they would blame the Democrats over Republicans. 23% – nearly a quarter of those polled – rode the fence, saying they had no opinion of whom to blame.

The shutdown, which stretched into three days, began at midnight on Saturday after Senate failed to agree on and pass a short-term bill to fund the government. Democrats fought for policies to protect those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, while Republicans rallied against them for funds to build a wall between the U.S and Mexico.

Americans are split on whether the government should have shutdown over DACA, with 42% saying it was important and 42% saying it wasn’t. The poll surveyed 1,017 voters from the 18-19 of January. The margin of error was 3% points.
