Republican strategist John Weaver blamed Donald Trump and his own party for the government shutdown this morning.
Weaver, who has worked on the presidential campaigns of Ohio Governor John Kasich and Senator John McCain (R-AZ), sent out a tweet explaining his rationale for assigning responsibility.
With the hashtag #TrumpShutdown trending far above the #SchumerShutdown on Twitter, it seems like the rest of America agrees with him
Trump has spent all morning trying to shift the blame to the Democrats with a series of accusatory tweets, but the public seems to be aware of the fact that not only do Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House but that a compromise solution to the crisis had already been negotiated before Trump blew up the deal with his rageaholic “shithole countries” comment.
In addition, they know that Trump agreed to a deal with Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer early in the day yesterday before reneging on the deal later in the afternoon after conferring with the ultra-right wing of his party.
That even hard-core Republicans are blaming the President for the government shutdown in light of all these facts does not bode well for the President or the Republican Party’s outlook for the 2018 mid-term elections.
