The Daily News ridiculed Trump with a scathing front cover


It’s a hard year to celebrate the fourth of July in our great nation, hard to free our minds of all the wretchedness those in power have inflicted upon our country and those trying to seek asylum in it. We as Americans have an obligation to uphold a certain moral standard and while many in Washington fight valiantly to keep intact our moral character, recent developments have proved it to be a difficult task.

You know you are looking at a nation divided when even the most patriotic of holidays spurn powerful protests.

President Trump’s hometown paper poked fun of him this Independence Day depicting the leader as a clown.

The New York Daily News’s July 4th cover shows the president in full clown makeup, donning a tattered golden crown.

“The clown who plays king can’t overthrow the bedrock values this nation was founded on 242 years ago today,” the headline states.

The New York Daily News is often critical of Trump and throughout his presidency has often used its front cover to slight the president over scandals.

This past week, the paper declared “We are f—–” following the announcement that Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy would be stepping down.

Trump has found himself engulfed by controversy this July 4, mostly surrounding his administration’s handling of immigrant families at the southern U.S. border, but also the reported ethics violations by Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and tariff battles with key U.S. allies.
