The British government is on pins and needles over the fact that Prince Harry and fiancée Meghan Markle have invited former President Barack Obama to their spring wedding and are scared that President Trump might take it as an insult and cause relations between the two allies to erode even further, according to a report this past Tuesday.
“Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness,” the Sun reported, citing a senior government official. “Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen.”
The relationship between Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May has become strained, with the leaders attacking one another during numerous controversies.
May recently attacked Trump, calling him out for being “wrong” for retweeting anti-Muslim videos shared by a far-right British group back in November .
And while the prince bonded greatly with the Obamas while they both attended the Invictus Games back in September while in Toronto, his bride-to-be referred to Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign as “divisive” and “misogynistic.”
The Sun claimed that May, who se personal invitation to Trump to visit England was met with overwhelming protests and opposed to it , could have the final say on whether or not the president will be on the guest list for the May 19 wedding .
“Conversations are ongoing about and ministers will eventually have to decide. If the PM lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up,” the British tabloid reported.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, were not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011.
