Trump’s incessant war on the “Fake News” media was just thoroughly degraded by a new study conducted by the University of Oxford. The results of the study prove just how gullible Trump supporters indeed are.
Oxford titled its study the “computational propaganda project.” The leaders of the project gathered data from the three months before Trump’s State of the Union address to conclude which groups are the most prominent consumers of fake news.
The study found that the right is overwhelmingly the leading consumer of junk news. The researchers stated:
“On Twitter, a network of Trump supporters consumes the largest volume of junk news, and junk news is the largest proportion of news links they share.”
The researchers also looked into Facebook, where they concluded that “extreme hard right pages – distinct from Republican pages – share more junk news than all the other audiences put together.”
Donald Trump Jr. himself just posted a link to a hard right article that attempted to smear Obama and save his father from the embarrassment of the Nunes memo. Don Jr. often calls real news “nothing burgers,” and the Nunes memo was perhaps the sloppiest nothing burger to get served up in the Trump era (outside of his father’s claim that Obama wiretapped him).
Oxford examined the activity of roughly 13,500 politically active Twitter users and 48,000 public Facebook pages to get its results.
