U.S. Ambassador Resigns, Releases Letter Explaining Why (Details)

The U.S. ambassador to Panama, John D. Feeley, has just resigned from his post, writing a resignation letter to the State Department explaining why he can no longer serve in the Trump administration CNBC reported.

The resignation immediately follows comments made by President Trump, where he was quoted by lawmakers in the Oval Office as saying the U.S. needed to stop immigration from “sh*t-hole countries.”

Feeley says he can no longer work under President Trump.

“As a junior foreign service officer, I signed an oath to serve faithfully the President and his administration in an apolitical fashion, even when I might not agree with certain policies. “My instructors made clear that if I believed I could not do that, I would be honor-bound to resign. That time has come,” Mr Feeley said in an excrept of his resignation letter that was released to Reuters.

The full letter has not been released yet.

Feeley’s last day in government will be on March 9th, giving the United States a few months to come up with a replacement.
